Victorian double sided engraved locket, 14K
A stunning antique locket with intricate engravings on both the front and back, featuring delicate floral and swirl patterns, all framed by the Victorian symbolic belt illustration. A beautiful and very special piece, ready to hold your cherished keepsakes.
Inside, the locket contains two frames and a thin piece of glass. The thin frame holds the glass in place, and if you want to replace the picture with your own it’s manual procedure where you’ll need to lift the frame that holds the glass with a thin spike of some sort, a needle maybe. Very careful to not scratch the glass or open the locket too much above it’s natural stop. After replacing the picture you’ adjust the glass and frame into the place where it “locks in”. The frames test as 9K gold. The glass have a tiny nick to the edge, see picture.
In Victorian symbolism, a closed belt or girdle represented eternity, loyalty, and unbreakable bonds. It was commonly used in jewelry and decorative arts to signify commitment, love, fidelity, and even mourning.
Love & Devotion: A belt encircling an object symbolized everlasting love and devotion, making it a popular motif in sentimental jewelry, including lockets and rings.
Mourning & Remembrance: In mourning jewelry, the closed belt represented the eternal connection between the living and the deceased, a promise that love transcends death.
Victorians loved hidden meanings in jewelry, so the locket's belt framing adds a beautiful layer of significance—whether for love, remembrance, or devotion.
